DIY Turquoise Headboard: Easy & Budget Friendly!

I made this simple headboard based on an idea I saw HERE. I saw this picture and could not find the original post anywhere, so I just winged it.

This cost me less than $10 and didn't take long at all. (I already had some of the basics- sand paper, top coat, antique glaze).  The longest part was just waiting for the paint to dry.

I went to Home Depot and bought a sample of turquoise paint and 4 pieces of wood- you can do any size you want really.  In fact you could probably pallet wood which is a great idea I didn't think of when I made this.

I sanded the wood down so it was smooth and then I put 2 coats of paint on the boards.  After the paint dried I applied an antique glaze.  I had some on hand already because I used the glaze on my kitchen cabinets (which I will post about later).

With and without the antique glaze

Once that dried, I put on a clear coat and was done!  I just needed to hang them up.

I tried using command strips and they did not work well for me. I have textured walls so that is probably why I don't know.  It could have been a user error also.

We had family come over around the holidays and one of the boards fell off in the night and hit my brother in law in the head..... So..... After that incident I decided I should probably use something a little more sturdy.

I just used screws- put 1 on each ends of the boards and called it good!  So far no one else has been a victim of the middle-of-the-night-head-board-attack!

Here's the finished product:
